Console.log (“Hello World 👋🏾!”);

This is my first blog of a new chapter, which will go all the way to thirteen weeks. Before I explain what the episode is about, let me briefly introduce myself. I’m Luz De La Rosa a teacher turned Front-End Web Developer. Originally from the Dominican Republic, but I’ve been living in Canada for the past three years.

Hobbies: My leisure activities include but are not limited to spending time with family and friends, traveling, meeting people from different cultures, doing sports, enjoying time in nature, listening to music, etc.

Fun Fact: I make my biggest decisions in the summertime! Check my previous blog https://medium.com/@luzdelarosaramirez/dealing-with-my-fears-and-getting-into-tech-f76a206fe2a0

Core Values

Self-Discipline has been a value that I have struggled to master but I have made it the core of everything that I do. This is the main key to turn your goals into accomplishments.

Optimism is about focusing on positives. I’m an optimistic person who believes that with hard work and doing what you are supposed to everything that you set your mind to could be achieved. Even if things are not going the way we want to, focusing on positives allows us to be persistent, stay motivated and find alternatives to solve challenging situations.

Curiosity for me is the key that helps us excelled. I value curiosity because it allows me to see things differently and search for answers to questions that could be seen as dumbs.

Motivation for Outreachy!

Looking for an opportunity to get into the Tech field, and especially to get involved with the open-source community, I got across a post about Outreachy I started doing some research about the program, and I learned that it was an excellent opportunity for people subject to systemic bias and impacted by under-representation in the technology industry to get hands-on experience.

I went through the application process that started with an initial application, then the Contribution Period here is where you select an open-source project and start contributing to it, and finally, the Final application. After being selected, in few days you will receive a golden email letting you know that we have landed your Outreachy Internship👏🏾

I’m happy about this opportunity, and I’m looking forward to a great learning experience with Outreachy.

Chapter Summer’21

summertime

This chapter will be about me, being accepted as an Outreachy intern at Mozilla (Firefox)🎉 Yeah, I will spend this awesome summer ahead working on the project “Improve the Firefox site data manager UI” 👩🏾‍💻.

My internship started on May 24th, and it has been a great experience! I’m in the learning process of getting familiar with the code source, and everything related to the project, but I have a great mentor who is leading me throughout this process her name is Prathiksha Guruprasad.

This chapter is a Work-in-progress… which means that we are going to be learning more about it as events keep unfolding. Just stay tuned!😊
